Satyaki Banerjee is a Bengali folk singer, dotara (Bengali folk lute) and classical sarod player - an instrument he studies with Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar. He was initially recruited by Parapar for their 2005 concerts in India and regularly accompanies Moushumi in her concert appearances across India and Bangladesh. As part of the Chennai-based folk-rock band Oikyotaan, Satyaki performed at the Rainforest International Music Festival in Malaysia in 2008.

He is also an active member of the Baul Fakir Utsab Committee which organises the annual Baul Fakir Utsab (a prominent West Bengal folk festival) in Kolkata.

As a research scholar of history at Jadavpur University (Kolkata), Satyaki is currently working on his doctoral thesis on the historiography of folk music in Bengal. He has contributed translations of baul songs to Charles Capwell and Sally Grossman’s www.baularchive.com website and is also working with Moushumi to document her ethnomusicological work on thetravellingarchive.org (under construction).

He will be accompanying Moushumi in her forthcoming concerts in the US (June-July 2010).
